The Invitation to Jesus Christ True Rest–Matthew 11:28-30 |
One of the most important gracious commands in the Bible given by Jesus Christ is “Come to Me” thereby revealing Himself as the giver of Salvation “all you who labor and are heavy laden” are those trying to earn Salvation by works, “I will give rest” this rest can only be found by placing one’s faith in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us on the Cross. Jesus looked upon the distressed and heart burdened, those whose hopes blighted, weary, heavy laden and invited them to come to Him, and “I will give you rest.”
“Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest….”Matt. 11:29”
Jesus Christ is speaking to every human being, whether they know it or not, all are weary and heavy laden all are weighed down with burdens that only Jesus Christ can remove. The heaviest burden that we bear is the burden of sin. If we were left to bear this burden, it will crush us. But the Sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ has taken our place. According to Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” He has borne the burden of our guilt. He will take the load from our weary shoulder. He will give us rest. The burden of our care and sorrow also He will bear. He invites us to cast all our care upon Him; Jesus is watching over all trebling child of God: If you are tempted; He will deliver you; If you are weak, He will strengthen you; If you are wounded He will heal you; If you are ignorant; He will enlighten you. “Learn from Me” says Jesus “for I am meek and lonely in heart and you shall find rest. It is the love of self that brings unrest.
“For my yoke is easy and My burden is light”–Matt. 11:30
The yoke is placed upon the oxen to aid them in drawing the load, to lighten the burden. So it is with the yoke of Jesus Christ. All what Jesus requires of us Christians is very little, just to have faith in Him and His Sacrificial Atoning work on the Cross. When our will is swallowed up in the will of God, and we use His gifts to bless others, we Christians shall find life’s burden light. According to Exo.33:13 and 14, When Moses prayed, “Show me now Thy way, that I may know Thee”, the Lord God answered him, “My presence shall go with thee and I will give you rest.”
