For Unto You a Savior

Today, many people miss the true message of Christmas. For some, it is just a time to gather with family. Most people know that it is a holiday with religious connection, however, their focus is in cultural tradition rather than the spiritual meaning.

To regain the wonder we may have lost, let us go back to the scene, where the first message of Christmas was given in Luke 2:8-20. It looks nothing like how we imagine a Christmas should be or look–no snow, no decorated trees or  festivity lights. There is simply a group of Shepherds out in the field at night watching over their sheep. They were not important, not powerful or influential people according to Luke 2:8 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night (verse 8). “And behold an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid” (verse 9).  “Then the angel said to them “Do not be be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (verse 10).  “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ  the Lord” (verse 11).  “And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger” (verse 12).

“And suddenly there  was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying, (verse 13)  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace goodwill toward men” (verse 14).

The angel welcomed Christ’s birth with praises to God and a blessing calling for peace to all those who committed to God’s grace. Peace will never result from just human interventions. God brought peace by sending Jesus to Mary in Bethlehem. The baby Jesus will open the way of SALVATION to all people.

Finally, the message of Christmas is meant to be shared. Jesus is the only One who can save us. So many people in the world need to hear why He arrived on Christmas. Christians who have heard and accepted the message have a responsibility to tell others because our culture today has largely lost the true meaning of Christmas, let us bring God back into the celebration.
